The Nashville Scene: WRITERS-CHOICE – Best Nashville Instagram

@thenashvilleiwishiknew

Last year, the Scene’s writers anointed David Ewing “Best Historian.” This year, his Instagram account, @thenashvilleiwishiknew, gets our praise. Ewing’s collection of archival photographs, old newspaper clippings and found artifacts injects a bit of curiosity and thoughtfulness into a sometimes-mindless Instagram scroll. His posts are often timely, and he always seems to find a local angle to the national story of the moment. A few days after Mayor David Briley won his special election bid to keep the seat, Ewing posted an old campaign ad from Briley’s grandfather, Mayor Beverly Briley. The day after Oprah Winfrey’s fiery speech at the Golden Globes, Ewing dug up a shot of the former Nashvillian when she was named “Miss Fire Prevention” by the Nashville Fire Department in 1971. If you haven’t already, give Ewing a follow. You won’t be sorry. STEPHEN ELLIOTT
